easyJet was established in 1995, and has grown to become the second largest low-cost carrier in Europe, behind Ryanair. From its base at London’s Luton Airport, the British airline carrier operates domestic and international scheduled services to over 100 destinations across the UK and Europe. In the UK alone it has nine base airports and six non-base airports.
The company considers itself a pioneer in online booking for travel. Initially flights could only be booked over the phone, but in 1997 easyJet implemented a website for direct bookings. Now flights can only be booked over the internet, with an exception during the 3 months immediately before the flight when bookings can be made by telephone.
easyJet focuses mainly on business passengers, but flies to a great variety of holiday destinations too. In 2004 the company launched easyJetHotels accommodation booking service in collaboration with Hotelopia and in 2007 expanded this relationship further by launching easyJetHolidays, packages made up of easyJetflights and Hotelopia accommodation products.
