Taking the Train from Milan

All trains from Milan to Lugano will depart from Milano Centrale, the city's major train station. The simplest route to Centrale is by catching the Milan Metro. Both the green and yellow lines stop at the rail terminus, and it takes about 10 minutes from the center of town. There are also direct rail connections to Milan's airports, along with local bus services.

Getting into Lugano by Train

Lugano is lively, beautifully situated and heaven for lovers of Alpine sports like skiing and hiking. In the summer, it's a cultural hot spot, with music and theater festivals - while the lakefront is a wonderful place to relax. In the winter, there are plenty of ski slopes around the town, making it a year-round destination within easy reach of Milan. All trains from Milan arrive at Lugano's main station, which is located a few hundred meters from the lakefront. You can walk to city center hotels, catch the number 4 bus (to "centro") or take a ride on the funicular railway, which regularly descends straight into the town center. There will also be buses to suburbs like Canobbio, and local trains serve other destinations on Lake Lugano like Melide.
