Oktoberfest may be the most enjoyable cultural activity to get involved in, but it has a lot more depth to it than meets the eye. But what kick-started the world’s largest folk festival?
The very first Oktoberfest took place just over 200 years ago, it started as a celebration of Kind Ludwig I’s marriage. It’s safe to say that it’s popularity has grown year on year to become the world’s biggest and brashest beer festival. Not that we’re complaining.
This year some 6 million visitors and locals alike will be flocking to the Theresienwiese, Munich’s designated area of the festivities, to get involved in the coming 16 days of revelry starting September 17th.
