Buses to Madrid
Buses to Madrid leave from London Victoria on a Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday at 9:00 a.m, they arrive at 12:30 p.m the following day. The service is operated by National Express. Passengers have one change, when they board a new bus at the Area Suco interchange in Spain, but there are many other comfort breaks along the way. The coach drops travellers at the Avenida de America Bus Station, located north-east of Madrid. It is connected to regional areas by its own metro station and a number of Madrid Municipal Transport Company or EMT buses. By rail it takes 25 minutes to reach the city centre, while by road it takes 30 minutes. The second bus station in Madrid is Méndez Alvaro; travellers arrive here from the south, east and north-west of Spain. It is situated south of the city and is also well served by public transport. Getting to the town centre via the station's metro service takes around 8 minutes, while EMT bus requires approximately 18 minutes.
Madrid is a cool, stylish city which gives travellers a taste of contemporary Spain, but still boasts many cultural treats. Take a look around the Prado Museum to see many famous masterpieces from the 12th to the 19th century. Don’t miss The Garden of Earthly Delights, by Hieronymus Bosch, or the 140 works by Francisco de Goya, widely considered as the first modern painter. The splendor of the Royal Palace is an impressive sight, as are the ostentatious interiors and carefully manicured gardens. At night, head to the Plaza Mayor central square to enjoy a warm evening stroll with the locals. If hunger strikes, head to La Torre del Oro, for drinks, snacks and fantastic views of the plaza.
