Taking the Train from Vienna

Trains from Vienna to Bratislava depart from Wien Hauptbahnhof, the new central station located to the south of the center. There are plentiful public transport connections, including stops on the S-Bahn local railway network and the U-Bahn metro. Tram numbers 0 and 18 provide a regular service to the center of Vienna. Bus services 13A and 69A serve the station and the N66 route runs throughout the night from Sunday to Thursday (the U-Bahn provides night services at weekends). Taxis are available from the station rank or nearby on Favoritenstrasse.

Getting into Bratislava by Train

The Slovakian capital is an underrated gem of central Europe, an atmospheric and elegant city, overlooked by its distinctive castle, popularly compared to an upside-down table. Bratislava's charming old town offers a wealth of tempting cafes, bars, and restaurants. Trains from Vienna to Bratislava arrive at two stations, Bratislava Petrzalka, located south of the city center, and the more central Bratislava Hlavna Stanica, a 15-minute walk north of the old town. Petrzalka Station is close to the bus and coach station on Rusovska Cesta and has a bus stop by its entrance on Panonska Cesta. Hlavna Stanica is served by trolley-bus routes 201 and 210, trams 2, 3, 8 and 13 and buses 32, 41 and 61, all providing connections around the city and the old town. There is an express bus service to the airport.
