Trains to Amsterdam

Trains in the Netherlands are an efficient way to travel, with a number of companies offering domestic and international train routes in BeNeLux. Thanks to international rail services such as the Eurostar, and continental Europe's efficient high speed and Inter City rail networks, and it's now easier than ever before to travel to Amsterdam by train. Most trains to Amsterdam from the UK depart from St Pancras International station in London. From here, passengers can take the Eurostar to Brussels Midi station, before changing for the high-speed Thalys service from Brussels Midi to Amsterdam Centraal, where most trains to Amsterdam arrive. This journey takes 4.5 hours. Alternatively, it's possible to make the connection from Brussels to Amsterdam on the hourly Inter City (IC) train. This journey takes 6 hours in total, and also arrives at Amsterdam Centraal station. The station is located right in the center of Amsterdam and is well served by public transport - several of Amsterdam's tram lines stop at Amsterdam Centraal, and it's included on most public bus routes. Trains to Amsterdam Centraal depart from Schipol Airport as regularly as every 10 minutes during the day.


Amsterdam is the capital of the Netherlands, and is famous for its canals, cafes and museums, such as the Van Gogh museum, dedicated to the country's best known artist, Vincent Van Gogh. Other attractions include the Bols museum, where visitors can sample the locally established spirit; and the world-famous Anne Frank Museum, dedicated to preserving the memory of the tragic victim of the Holocaust, situated in the original attic where the girl and her family hid. The city is also known for its love of cycling. There are many bicycle tours available which are a great way of seeing the city. Alternatively, visitors can learn all about the city's history and see some of the beautiful architecture on a guided canal cruise.
